We are improving your Hawthorn Library
Your student experience matters to us. That's why we have taken your feedback on board and are now creating a brand new library space, with key services for the Swinburne community housed within the one central location.
Level 2 is now open
We are excited to announce that the Level 2 refurbishment works are now complete! Come along and have a look at our modern, revamped library space. You can now find and access many of your key services at the heart of the campus - your library.
Services now accessible on Level 2:
- Library and studentHQ
- International Student Counter
- Ask a librarian
- Library Rovers
- LAS pop-up service
- Housing & Finance
You can access Level 2 from the Atrium, as well as via the brand new entrance on McLeod Lane (between AMDC and the library). The 24-hour Latelab entrance will continue to be accessible via 60 William Street (next to the Swinburne Innovation Hub – Fire Station) where the temporary Latelab will be located on Level 3 from Monday 7 January.
The Library will also still be accessible from AMDC via the walkway (Level 3 AMDC, Level 4 Library) during Library hours.
We are continuing with the improvements
We are pleased to announce that refurbishment works on Level 1, including the completion of the new 24-hour Latelab entrance via John St, will begin soon and are expected to be completed in Q1 2019.
Please keep checking this website to keep updated, look out for directional signage and ask one of the team if you need any help.

We kept asking for your creative ideas and feedback throughout the refurbishment works. Here's some feedback you've given us:
- “I like the new late entry concept”
- “More bookable study space please”
- “Add space for headphone users so they don’t disturb others”
- “The colours in the concept picture should change”
- “Add some plugs beside the table so we can more conveniently charge our devices”
- “More areas open overnight”
- “Looks great! What about a space for meditation?”
