General Information
Overview
The Bachelor of Health Science/Bachelor of Business double degree aims to develop a set of complementary and cross-disciplinary skills and knowledge in health and business.
You'll explore Australian and international health challenges and examine the physical, psychological and social aspects of health in a variety of settings.
You'll also gain core skills and knowledge in business, management and operations to prepare for work in modern organisations.
Study structure
Successful completion of the Bachelor of Health Science / Bachelor of Business requires students to complete units of study to the value of 400 - 500 credit points. All units of study are valued at 12.5 credit points unless otherwise stated.
Full-time study: 100 credit points/eight standard units of study per year
Part-time study: 50 credit points/four standard units of study per year
One credit point is equivalent to one hour of study per week per semester (including contact hours and private study)

Course Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of the Bachelor of Health Science/ Bachelor of Business, graduates will be able to:
- Apply theoretical and practical knowledge in one or more health science disciplines to enhance health outcomes and the welfare of individuals and/or populations including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
- Perform specialised techniques and use technologies for the critical analysis and interpretation of health related data
- Apply skills in effective teamwork, initiative, judgement and responsibility, within the cultural, legal and ethical framework of health professions
- Communicate effectively with various stakeholders in health to demonstrate skills and disseminate information, knowledge and concepts using different delivery methods
- Reflect on personal capabilities and behaviours to meet evolving professional demands in health and seek opportunities for lifelong self-improvement and professional development
- Generate innovative and effective solutions for health-related problems using evidence-based approaches
- Apply and integrate business-relevant knowledge, theories, concepts, technologies, practices and processes

Future career options for graduates of this double degree include a wide range of fields in both the health and business sectors.
Employment opportunities may be found in medical research, health communication and policy development, nutrition, consulting, business analysis, communications, entrepreneurship, event management, finance, human resources, international business, management, and marketing.
Professional recognition
The Bachelor of Business (with an Accounting major) is professionally accredited through CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ). Graduates are eligible to receive a number of exemptions from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and from The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).
The Bachelor of Business (with an Accounting major) is also provisionally accredited by the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA) for respective microcredentials in the Global Certificate of Public Accounting (GCPA) program. IPA’s Global Certificate of Public Accounting program is a set of competency based and industry informed microcredentials developed for accounting professionals working in a global setting.
The Bachelor of Business (with a Finance Major) is recognised under the CFA Institute Affiliated University and covers at least 70% of topics contained within the Level I CFA program Candidate Body of Knowledge (CBOK) topics including CFA Institute Codes of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct.
The Human Resource Management major (in the Bachelor of Business)is accredited by the Australian HR Institute (AHRI).Accreditation is reviewed every three years by the AHRI National Accreditation Committee. Students applying for this course can be assured that the quality of core units map onto the Australian HR Capability Framework for HR Practitioners and Academics, a recognised benchmark of HR best practice and standards.
Swinburne University of Technology is also an Academic Partner of the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) Association. This partnership provides finance students with access to CAIA-related learning opportunities, industry insights, and potential scholarship pathways. The program builds strong foundations relevant to alternative investments and supports graduates who wish to pursue further professional studies under CAIA accreditations.
Course rules
To qualify for the Bachelor of Health Science / Bachelor of Business students must complete 400 Credit Points comprising:
- Eight (8) core Health Science units of study (100 credit points)
- Five [5] Business Fundamentals core units (62.5 credit points)
- Three [3] Business Practice units (37.5 credit points)
- Eight (8) units of study from a Health Science discipline 100 credit points major
- Seven to Eight (7 to 8) units of study from a Business discipline major (87.5 to 100 credit points)*
- One (1) Elective unit of study (12.5 credit points)**
* Please note that the Accounting Major and the Finance Major has cross crediting. This makes the Finance Major 87.5 credit points and the Accounting Major 100 credit points.
**Only applicable if the Finance Major is chosen.
Domestic students also have an opportunity to undertake a WIL Professional Placement. International students may be required to change courses in order to complete a placement and should consider visa implications and extended study duration prior to applying.
Students may not complete more than 200 credit points at Introductory Level, except where core requirements of selected majors exceed the stated number of introductory units. A unit of study can only be counted once.
Where there are overlaps between majors and/or minors, students in the first instance choose another unit from the list of units available in the major/minor.
Professional placements
Professional Placements are subject to a competitive selection process. Students who undertake a 12 month professional placement are subject to the following course rules and must complete 500 credit points comprising:
- Eight (8) core Health Science units of study (100 credit points)

- Three [3] Business Practice units (37.5 credit points)
- Eight (8) units of study from a Health Science major (100 credit points)

Maximum Academic Credit
The maximum level of credit that can be granted for the Bachelor of Health Science / Bachelor of Business is 200 credit points (normally 16 units), 100 credit points maximum from each discipline

Entry requirements
A. Applicants with recent secondary education (within past three years)
ATAR
This course uses the ATAR as part of its selection considerations.
Guaranteed ATAR: if you receive an ATAR of 60 or higher and meet all the essential requirements for this course, you will be guaranteed an offer.
Educational history
An applicant's entire academic history, including ATAR results, will be considered for entry into this course.
Selection rank adjustments
Selection ranks for this course will be calculated based on your ATAR with adjustments to overall study scores based on subjects studied, location of your home address, SEAS application, and participation In Swinburne's Early Leaders program. Subject Adjustments
A study score of 25 in any Business, Health and Human Development, any Information Technology, any Mathematics, Physical Education, Global Politics, Psychology, any Science or Sociology equals 2 aggregate points per study. Overall maximum of 10 points.
Meeting course prerequisites
VCE Units 3 and 4: a minimum study score of 20 in any English (except EAL) or 25 in English as Alternate Language (EAL).

Educational history
An applicant's entire academic history, including results from previous higher education study will be considered for entry into this course. If previous higher education qualifications are incomplete, results must have been obtained in the last seven years.

As for Year 12 or equivalent.
STAT/Bridging courses
Results from the STAT Multiple Choice will be considered for applicants without an ATAR and whose post-secondary studies do not meet the minimum requirements. Applicants who do not meet the English prerequisites can sit STAT Written English. STAT results are valid for two years.
C. Applicants with vocational education and training (VET) study
Educational history
An applicant's entire academic history from the past seven years, including complete and/or incomplete post-secondary VET studies, will be considered for entry into this course. Only graded results will be considered.
Meeting course prerequisites
As for Year 12 or equivalent.
STAT/Bridging courses
Results from the STAT Multiple Choice will be considered for applicants without an ATAR and whose post-secondary studies do not meet the minimum requirements. Applicants who do not meet the English prerequisites can sit STAT Written English. STAT results are valid for two years.
D. Applicants with work and life experience
Entire academic record
This course uses an applicant's entire academic record as part of its selection considerations, including an applicant's ATAR results from the last seven years can be considered for entry into this course.
