Overview

Graduates of the GCLT(VET) will be qualified for advanced roles in the vocational education sector, including positions such as Senior Educator, Coordinator, and Education Manager. The course enables progression beyond the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and supports eligibility for professional registration and salary advancement. It also allows experienced HE educators to transition into VET teaching roles.

Study structure

Successful completion of the Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching (VET) requires students to complete units of study to the value of 50 credit points. All units of study are valued at 12.5 credit points unless otherwise stated.

  • Part-time study: 50 credit points/four standard units of study per year

  • One credit point is equivalent to one hour of study per week per semester (including contact hours and private study)

Aims and objectives

Investigate pedagogical models and frameworks relevant to vocational education and apply them to the design of inclusive, learner-centred training and assessment strategies for diverse cohorts

Design, deliver, and assess competency-based learning experiences that align with national training packages, industry standards, First Nations teaching and learning approaches, and the standards for RTOs

Apply reflective and evidence-informed approaches to continuously improve teaching and assessment practices in the VET sector, contributing to a culture of professional learning and quality assurance

Develop and implement curriculum and assessment strategies across a range of delivery modes, including face-to-face, blended, and online, with a focus on workplace and applied learning contexts

Apply learning in a practical context through completion of a 200-hour practicum, incorporating supervised teaching, peer observation, and participation in professional and organisational activities within a VET setting a focus on workplace and applied learning contexts

Professional recognition

The Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching (VET) is a recognised award under the Australian Qualifications Framework. Professional recognition is not required for teaching in higher education.

Course rules

This course is available to local students and off-shore international students who are studying in a country other than Australia.

This course is not available to on-shore international students on a student visa.

This course is taken part-time across one (1) year.
