Andrew Patterson Mathematics Scholarship 2026
The Andrew Patterson Mathematics Scholarship will provide financial support to a first-year, full-time, undergraduate student with an interest in mathematics who has experienced educational disadvantage, helping to open pathways to opportunity and achievement.
This scholarship is valued at $10,000 per year, for up to five years, paid bi-annually.
Courses eligible
Minoring or majoring in Mathematics in any Swinburne undergraduate course.
Eligibility / selection criteria
- Meet the following criteria:
- be an Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident
- have attended a government secondary school prior to commencing at Swinburne.
Preference will be given to students who have relocated from rural/regional areas of Victoria.
- Meet the following enrolment criteria:
- be a commencing first year Swinburne student and undertaking a mathematics unit in Semester 2, 2026
- enrolled full-time in an eligible course (see courses eligible in section above)
- approved for a major or minor in mathematics
- studying on-campus.
- Submit a personal statement of up to 500 words or a short 2 minute video addressing:
- your interest in mathematics
- career aspirations
- how this scholarship would make a difference in your life and help you overcome disadvantage.

Provide your ATAR certificate or academic transcript of previous study.

Note: referees cannot be a family member or friend.
Value
This scholarship is valued at $10,000 per year, for up to five years, paid bi-annually.
Should the recipient go on to pursue postgraduate study, the scholarship may be extended to support honours or master’s-level coursework, within a maximum five-year period.

Applicants should complete an online application form and submit with all supporting documentation by 31 August 2026.
