Indigenous Athlete Scholarship

The Moondani Toombadool Centre has established the Indigenous Athlete Scholarship to support any current Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Swinburne student athletes competing in senior or junior sports.

This Scholarship is aimed at any Indigenous student athlete that compete in their chosen sport at a competition level.

Please note that demonstrated academic progress will be a key factor considered in the assessment and approval of scholarship applications.

Unfortunately, social level sports will not be considered for this scholarship.


Courses eligible

Available to all current Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander students from all Swinburne courses who have completed at least one (1) semester or teaching period of study at Swinburne University or Swinburne Online.


Eligibility / selection criteria

To be eligible for the Indigenous Athlete Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Meet the following criteria:
    • Australian citizen
    • Confirm you are of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage by submitting a Confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Heritage certificate (COA) with your scholarship application or a certified Statutory Declaration declaring that the individual applying for the scholarship is of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, and/or is accepted as such by the community in which you live, or formerly lived.
    • Indigenous students who compete at a senior or junior sporting level and are not eligible for the Elite Athlete Program. (Please note that eligibility is limited to students participating at a competitive level)
       
  2. Meet the following enrolment criteria:
    • Be a Swinburne student in 2026
    • Enrolled full-time or part-time in an eligible course (see courses eligible in section above)
    • Studying on campus or online
    • Completed at least one (1) semester or teaching period of study at Swinburne University or Swinburne Online.
       
  3. A written statement (max. 500 words) addressing the following points:
    • Chosen sport and level 
    • Number of competitative year in the chosen sport
    • Your study and sporting aspirations
       
  4. Proof of sporting participation
    • Please submit relevent evidence or documenation which confirms your active enagement with a sporting club or assoication (such as Registeration and/or Insurance Invoice) 

Value

These scholarships are valued at $500 (one-off payment).
