Stephen and Diane Fisher Engineering Scholarship 2026

The Stephen and Diane Engineering Scholarship is dedicated to empowering the next generation of leaders in the engineering industry.

This scholarship will be used to financially support a commencing, full time undergraduate student, relocating from a rural/regional area within Victoria to study in their chosen discipline of engineering.

The scholarship is named after Stephen Fisher, a senior engineer with a career in manufacturing and proud Swinburne alum, and Diane Fisher, a Change Manager professional.  Both value the role of education in shaping our future.


Courses eligible

The following courses offered by Swinburne University of Technology:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Professional)

Eligibility / selection criteria

To be eligible applicants must:

  1. Meet the following criteria:
    • be an Australian or Australian permanent resident
  2. Meet the following enrolment criteria​​​​:
    • be a commencing first year Swinburne student in Semester 1, 2026
    • enrolled full-time in an eligible course (see courses eligible in section above)
    • studying on-campus
  3. Demonstrate that you have relocated from a rural and regional area in order to study at Swinburne.
     
  4. Provide evidence of educational disadvantage, which may fall under the categories listed below. To assist you, we’ve included a link to the VTAC website for further guidance on preparing your evidence.

    Personal information and location
    Financial hardship
    Living with a disability or medical condition
    Difficult family and life circumstances

  5. Submit a personal statement of up to 500 words or 1-2 minute video addressing: 
    • an intention to become a professional Engineer
    • preferred industry and career aspirations
    • volunteering/ leadership experience in the community
    • how this scholarship would make a difference and help you overcome disadvantage
       
    • If submitting a video, upload your video to cloud based storage (eg google drive/one drive/dropbox) and provide the link in a MS Word or PDF document. Ensure the video is downloadable by anyone and not access restricted.
  6. Provide a written reference from a teacher, community leader, or employer. Note: referees cannot be a family member or friend.

Preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate community/leadership experience such as through volunteering, sports coaching and/or community service.


Value

The scholarship will support one student for the duration of their undergraduate degree (up to five years) at $10,000 per year, paid bi-annually.
