Sheila Fitzgerald Scholarship 2025
The Sheila Fitzgerald Scholarship supports students pursuing an an Apprenticeship or Vocational foundation program, consistent with Sheila’s deeply held commitment to accessible, high-quality vocational education.
Courses eligible
Apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship courses offered by Swinburne University of Technology in the following areas:
- Apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship courses:
- Plumbing
- Carpentry
- Engineering (mechanical and fabrication)
- Electrotechnology
- Electrician
- Building and construction (bricklaying)
- Spoken and written English
- English as an Additional Language (EAL) (Access)
- English as an Additional Language (EAL) (Further Study)
- General education for adults
Eligibility / selection criteria
To be eligible for the Sheila Fitzgerald Scholarship, applicants must:
- Meet the following criteria:
- an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa
- Meet the following enrolment criteria:
- be a continuing Swinburne student in 2025
- enrolled full time in an eligible course (see courses eligible in section above)
- Submit a personal statement (500 words) addressing the following points:
- a passion for the chosen field of study
- long term plans in the chosen field of study
- benefits of the scholarship
- Provide evidence of financial need or socio-economic disadvantage. Disadvantage(s) may include:
- financial difficulty or low-socio economic status (Centrelink statement, payslips)
- disability or medical condition
- delay or interruption to career or studies because of family responsibilities or illness
- relocation from a rural or regional area in order to undertake tertiary study
- English as a second language
- identification as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
Value
This scholarship is valued at $2,000 (one-off payment)
