Scholarships for international students

If you’re unable to join us on campus right now, you’ll still enjoy a warm Swinburne welcome online. We want to make your experience even more rewarding while you’re studying from home, so we’ve increased our scholarships and established new incentive programs to help you to focus more on learning and worry less about finances. You’ll find the entry criteria, below.

Up to 75% off your tuition fees

We have a wide range of scholarships available. Some scholarships are awarded based on the grades of your previous study, meaning the better your grades, the higher the scholarship amount. Other scholarships are awarded based on your ability to meet the entry requirements of selected courses.

Swinburne X LinkedIn International Program – NEW

This could be for you

  • If you are an offshore international student currently outside of Australia or New Zealand and unable to travel due to travel restrictions; and
  • Applying for (commencing) or continuing a Swinburne higher education course with online unit availability in the period between June 2020 and December 2020.
    Note: this program is not available to international students studying onshore (in Australia) or students who are currently onshore that decide to leave Australia.

How much is available?

Exclusive access to LinkedIn Learning for the duration of your studies.
Plus, a 30% fee reduction for any units completed online before arriving in Australia.

Good to know

If you are an offshore international student who is unable to travel to Australia to commence or continue your higher education course due to travel restrictions resulting from COVID-19, you will automatically be considered for the Swinburne X LinkedIn International Program.

Through our unique partnership with LinkedIn, this scholarship gives you exclusive access to LinkedIn Learning opportunities for the duration of your studies, meaning you’ll be able to undertake additional learning opportunities to boost your CV. Plus, you’ll also receive a 30% fee reduction on any units you complete online at home before arriving in Australia. 

To be eligible, you must

  • Be a citizen of any country except Australia or New Zealand. Permanent residents of Australia are not eligible.
  • Be an offshore international student continuing your Swinburne undergraduate or postgraduate course via online delivery mode in your home country in the period between June 2020 and December 2020;
    OR
    Be an offshore international applicant applying for your Swinburne undergraduate or postgraduate course outside of Australia or New Zealand and commencing via online delivery mode in your home country in the period between June 2020 and December 2020.
  • Commence or continue your course, online, from your home country, with the intention to travel to campus when the situation changes.
  • Not be able to travel to Australia for on-campus studies due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.
  • Not be holding another scholarship or reduced fee arrangement from Swinburne. Note: if you hold a Swinburne International Excellence Undergraduate Scholarship valued at between 10%-25% or a Swinburne International Excellence Postgraduate Scholarship valued at between 10%-25%, you may be eligible to ‘switch’ to the higher-valued Swinburne X LinkedIn International Program during the online component of your studies.

ELICOS+ Exclusive

Up to A$4400 total

This could be for you if you are applying for

  • Any English language course (ELICOS) + Undergraduate or postgraduate degree
  • Any English language course (ELICOS) + Pathway course (e.g. UniLink) + Undergraduate or postgraduate degree

How much is available?

ELICOS+ Exclusive refunds up to 10 weeks of your ELICOS tuition fees, up to A$4400.

Good to know

Once you have finished your ELICOS course and your main Swinburne course starts, you’ll receive a refund of up to 10 weeks of ELICOS classes, deducted from your main course fees.

Your refund will be evenly distributed across the first three semesters of your degree.

To be eligible, you must

  • Be a citizen of any country except Australia or New Zealand. Permanent residents of Australia are not eligible.
  • Apply for and commence your course in 2020 or 2021.
  • Not yet have satisfied the English language requirement of your main Swinburne course.

When will I find out if I'm successful?

If your application to study at Swinburne is successful, you will receive an email from us. In the same email, you will also find out if you qualify for ELICOS+ Exclusive.

George Swinburne STEM Postgraduate Scholarship

This could be for you if you are applying for

  • Master of Engineering (all specialisations and combined degrees)
  • Master of Engineering Science (all specialisations)
  • Master of Information Technology
  • Master of Professional Engineering
  • Master of Science (Biotechnology)
  • Master of Construction and Infrastructure Management
  • Master of Data Science
  • Master of Cybersecurity
  • Master of Information Technology (Professional Computing)

How much is available?

30% off your course fees for the duration of the course.
Note: applicants who have achieved an academic result of 90% GPA Australian standard equivalent or above will be considered for our Swinburne International Excellence Postgraduate Scholarship.

Good to know

The scholarship is available to all students who meet the entry requirements of the eligible courses. 

To be eligible, you must

  • Be a citizen of any country except Australia or New Zealand. Permanent residents of Australia are not eligible.
  • Apply for and commence in Semester 2, 2020 or Semester 1 or 2, 2021.
  • Not be holding another scholarship or reduced fee arrangement from Swinburne (except ELICOS+ Exclusive).

Swinburne International Excellence Pathway Scholarship

From A$2500 to A$5000

This could be for you if you are applying for

  • Foundation Year + UniLink diploma + bachelor degree
  • Foundation Year + bachelor degree
  • UniLink diploma + bachelor degree
  • Postgraduate Qualifying Program (PQP) + postgraduate degree

How much is available?

  • Fixed scholarship amount of $2500 a year off your course fees for a maximum of 2 years.

Good to know

If you excel academically in your Foundation Year course and/or UniLink diploma, you could be awarded a Swinburne International Excellence Undergraduate Scholarship for your bachelor degree.

To be eligible, you must

  • Be a citizen of any country except Australia or New Zealand. Permanent residents of Australia are not eligible.
  • Not be currently accepted or enrolled at Swinburne, unless you are only enrolled in our ELICOS program.
  • Not be holding another scholarship or reduced fee arrangement from Swinburne.
  • Have completed at least three VCE subjects (Units 1 and 2) to a Satisfactory Completion level; OR
  • Have achieved an academic result of at least 60% WAM in Australian Year 11 or equivalent qualification; OR
  • Have achieved an academic result of at least 60% WAM in Australian Year 12 or equivalent qualification; OR
  • Have achieved an academic result of at least 60% GPA Australian standard equivalent.

Swinburne International Excellence Undergraduate Scholarship

This could be for you if you are applying for

  • Any bachelor degree except the Bachelor of Aviation and Piloting, and the Bachelor of Aviation and Piloting/Bachelor of Business double degree.

How much is available?

  • 10% - 75% off your course fees every year for a maximum of 4 years.

Good to know

If you are awarded a Swinburne International Excellence Undergraduate Scholarship valued at between 10% - 25%, you may be able to ‘switch’ to the higher-valued 30% Swinburne X LinkedIn International Program pending your eligibility.

To be eligible, you must

  • Be a citizen of any country except Australia or New Zealand. Permanent residents of Australia are not eligible.
  • Not be currently accepted or enrolled at Swinburne, unless you are only enrolled in our ELICOS program.
  • Have achieved an academic result of at least 60% GPA Australian standard equivalent.
  • Not be holding another scholarship or reduced fee arrangement from Swinburne, unless you are awarded a Swinburne International Excellence Undergraduate Scholarship valued at between 10% - 25%, in which case, you may be able to ‘switch’ to the 30% Swinburne X LinkedIn International Program, if eligible.

Swinburne International Excellence Postgraduate Scholarship

This could be for you if you are applying for

  • Any master degree by coursework or research.

How much is available?

  • For most master degrees: 10% - 75% off your course fees every year for a maximum of 2 years.

Good to know

If you are awarded a Swinburne International Excellence Postgraduate Scholarship valued at between 10% - 25%, you may be able to ‘switch’ to the higher-valued 30% Swinburne X LinkedIn International Program, pending your eligibility.

To be eligible, you must

  • Be a citizen of any country except Australia or New Zealand. Permanent residents of Australia are not eligible.
  • Not be currently accepted or enrolled at Swinburne in a 2-year master by coursework program.
  • Have achieved an academic result of at least 60% GPA Australian standard equivalent.
  • Not be holding another scholarship or reduced fee arrangement from Swinburne, unless you are awarded a Swinburne International Excellence Postgraduate Scholarship valued at between 10% - 25%, in which case, you may be able to ‘switch’ to the 30% Swinburne X LinkedIn International Program, if eligible.

Swinburne International Alumni Direct Scholarship

Up to A$38,000 or A$21,000 total

This could be for you if you

  • Are applying for an undergraduate or postgraduate degree at Swinburne (except the Bachelor of Aviation and Piloting, and the Bachelor of Aviation and Piloting/Bachelor of Business double degree).
  • Are applying directly to Swinburne and not via an agent or authorised representative.
  • Are applying for a degree at the Hawthorn campus in Melbourne.
  • Already hold an undergraduate or postgraduate degree from Swinburne, or have recently completed a Swinburne pathway course.

How much is available?

  • For undergraduate degrees: 10% - 25% off your course fees every year for a maximum of 4 years, up to a total of A$38,000 for the duration of your degree.
  • For most postgraduate degrees: 10% - 25% off your course fees every year for a maximum of 2 years, up to a total of A$21,000 for the duration of your degree. 
  • For the Master of Science (Network Systems): scholarship amount is fixed at $2500 for your entire course.

To be eligible, you must

  • Be a citizen of any country except Australia or New Zealand. Permanent residents of Australia are not eligible.
  • Have completed an undergraduate or postgraduate degree at Swinburne.
  • Not be holding another scholarship or reduced fee arrangement from Swinburne.

The Dean's Scholarship Excellence in Architecture and Urban Design

This could be for you if you are applying for

  • Master of Architecture
  • Master of Architecture and Urban Design
  • Master of Urban Design

Scholarship amount?

50% off your course fees for the duration of the course.

How to apply

You will automatically be assessed for a 50% scholarship after submitting a 10-20 page portfolio and complete application.

Applicants who are not successful will be considered for the International Excellence Postgraduate Scholarship.

To be eligible, you must

  • Be a citizen of any country except Australia or New Zealand. Permanent residents of Australia are not eligible.
  • Apply for and commence in Semester 2, 2020.
  • Not be holding another scholarship or reduced fee arrangement from Swinburne.

You don’t need to submit a separate application* for these scholarships. Just apply for your Swinburne course of choice, and when we assess your course application we will automatically assess you for a Swinburne International scholarship.
