This unit of study aims to develop within the student an understanding of the scientific research method, practical research skills, and practical design and development skills in a research environment, through an individual research project conducted during summer semester.
Unit Learning Outcomes (ULO)
Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
1. Describe and apply the scientific research method within a research project context
2. Select and apply appropriate practical research skills to execute research project
3. Communicate research outcomes to a technical audience
4. Demonstrate practical design and development skills in a research environment
5. Identifies and adopts safe working practises relevant to research project

Content
Students will undertake a substantial project, usually based within a research group in the university or external industrial research establishment. Projects are expected to involve a substantial research component, relevant to the discipline area of the placement.
