GD-SSCPC Graduate Diploma of Social Science (Professional Counselling) OR
MA-SSCPC Master of Social Science (Professional Counselling) (or equivalent)  or
MA-COUADV Master of Counselling (Advanced), or
GD-COU Graduate Diploma of Counselling or
GC-COU Graduate Certificate of Counselling
AND PSC70002 Assessment and Treatment of Psychological Disorders

Aims and objectives

This unit introduces students to common techniques used for conducting research in counselling. On completion, students will be able to critically evaluate research evidence for counselling interventions and programs. Students will also be able to apply various research methods in their counselling work.


Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
1. Describe the role of effective qualitative research within the discipline of counselling psychology
2. Employ effective qualitative research methods and analysis in answering a research question.
3. Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the method utilised in a group research project.
4. Contribute meaningfully to the production of a group-authored research article.
