Course description
This qualification provides breadth and depth through advanced skills and integration of knowledge in the built interior environment. This course covers real-world, complex planning and detailing of residential, commercial and institutional design projects. It may include design for specialist areas such as facilities for people with disabilities, aged or adaptive environments.
Units have been chosen to include those required by the Victorian Building Authority to allow graduates to apply for registration as a building practitioner in the category of Draftsperson, Building Design (Interior) after two years on the job experience.

Career opportunities
Graduates may find employment as an interior designer / decorator or colour and design consultant. Students may also be employed by architectural and interior design firms, furniture, furnishing and fabric suppliers, and retail stores or shop fitters.

Graduate skills
Graduates will have a command of wide-ranging, highly specialised technical, creative and conceptual skills and knowledge in interior design. These skills allow designers to conceive, negotiate and realise design concepts for complex projects using sophisticated communication, organisational and project management skills. Graduates will have good collaborative skills, able to work well in a team as well as take responsibility for the work of others in terms of establishing and monitoring systems to ensure the effective production of work.
Professional recognition
Units have been chosen to include those required by the Victorian Building Authority for those wishing to register as a Draftsperson. After two years on the job experience with a registered Draftsperson or Builder, graduates may apply to the Victorian Building Authority for registration as a building practitioner in the category of Draftsperson, Building Design (Interior).
