The Advanced Diploma of Building Design (Architectural) prepares students for a career as a building designer, meeting building and construction industry needs in residential, industrial and commercial areas. Graduates may work for registered building practitioners, architects and other design professionals.
Graduates may apply to register as a building practitioner and practice as a sole practitioner after a period of industry experience.
Students gain the skills to interpret plans and specifications to produce working drawings, problem solve solutions to develop well resolved design outcomes, develop and coordinate architectural project documentation and work with the National Construction Code and other relevant legislation. Students gain specialised knowledge of structural and construction technology, applications required in architectural workflows and apply the principles of sustainability and safety to building design.
Graduates should be able to generate ideas through the application of design principles and theories; produce 2D and 3D drawings in accordance with industry best practice and to a level suitable for building permit approval; and communicate and clarify complex structures and layouts when presenting graphic design solutions to key stakeholders.
