Simone chose to do a professional placement to gain industry experience and challenge her learning while having a paid placement experience. Since completing her placement, she now works part-time at NAB as a permanent employee, and studies full-time in a Bachelor of Business (majoring in Marketing) / Bachelor of Design (majoring in UX Interaction Design).

Simone completed her placement at National Australian Bank (NAB).

I chose NAB because I felt the requirements and description of the role complimented skillsets from my double degree very well. I was also intrigued to find that the role at NAB did not seek students with an Economics or Finance background.

As a Talent and Design Analyst, I help to manage NAB’s Technology Internship programs and Technology Graduate Program. This involves providing technology-based strategy, design, management and communications to support the businesses early talent resourcing pipelines.

  • "I would highly recommend a professional placement. When you apply for a professional placement, your application is being compared against about 5-10 other students. When you graduate, your application is being compared against 1000+ other graduates. Do a professional placement.”

Simone , Bachelor of Business / Bachelor of Design

During my placement, I helped the program increase its cohort of students from 18 in 2017 to more than 100 in 2018. With more than half of our 2018 cohort being retained through full-time, part-time, or graduate positions. It is extremely fulfilling knowing I have been a part helping young student’s kick-start their careers in technology.

This placement has helped me learn to be open minded when considering future career options. I am excited to transition into full-time work after graduating and look forward to a career that is not defined by a single role.
