My participation in this project has helped me become experienced in conducting different tests for bitumen in addition to analysing and applying the results. The expertise and scientific knowledge I’ve gained have definitely helped pave the path for my future as a researcher.

There are many benefits to completing a PhD Internship. The discussions I have had with experts about various scientific topics in this field have helped me improve my communication skills and the way I present my ideas. As a researcher, I have learned to become more efficient at conducting research and managing the data I collect. This has helped me build my skills and I can now use multiple techniques and technologies to also process and analyse my findings.

I am greatly appreciative of the opportunity I had to have this amazing experience at an organisation like the Australian Road Research Board (ARRB). The collaboration between Swinburne and APR.Intern empowers PhD students and lets them get great experience in a research environment. They supported me every step of the way. I am very proud to have been able to participate in completing a project for the Australian Federal Government. This includes the lab work I go to do on the samples from different regions of Australia, using the FTIR portable device to test the seal oxidation level and create the reference curves to estimate the seal age. These curves can help the asset management and road authority in managing their network and help to plan for the future maintenance required.

This internship helped me build a wide networking and professional experience that is related to industrial work. It changed the way I think and taught me how to respond immediately to various situations. It is improved my communication skills and the way I present my ideas.
