Professor Katherine Albury

Program Leader, Community Mental Health and Wellbeing

Katherine Albury Kath Albury is a Professor of Media and Communication, and is Program Leader for Community Mental Health and Wellbeing in the Social innovation Research Institute.

Kath’s research draws on the disciplines of health, education, media and cultural studies, to develop new understandings of digital citizenship and data literacy. Her past projects have investigated young people’s practices of digital self-representation, and the role that user-generated media (including dating apps and social networking platforms) in everyday cultures of sexuality, intimacy and friendship. She is especially interested in the ways that media users’ everyday strategies for safe and ethical media use can inform policy and practice for organisations seeking to promote learning, safety and wellbeing in digital cultures.

Since 2004, Kath has collaborated with a range of government and non-government organisations, including the Alannah and Madeline Foundation, the Australian National Rugby League, Rape and Domestic Violence Services Australia, the Australian Federation of AIDS Organisations and the NSW Departments of Health and Education.
