Professor Jane Farmer

Foundation Director of the Social Innovation Research Institute

Jane is an international leader in research on rural health, services and rural society.

She has written extensively on co-creating services and wellbeing initiatives with rural communities. Her contemporary obsession is with how NGOs and communities can harness data analytics for social good, and how data analytics can be applied to understand and persuade policymakers and others in power, about the causes and solutions of disadvantage and social challenges.

Jane was formerly Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research) in Science, Health and Engineering at La Trobe University, Melbourne. Prior to that, she was Head of the La Trobe Rural Health School from 2010.

She has held distinguished roles in Scotland, including as Director of the University of the Highlands and Islands Centre for Rural Health Research and Policy.
