Associate Professor Alfons Palangkaraya

Program Leader, Complex analytics: Economics and innovation analytics

Alfons Palangkaraya is an Associate Professor in Economics and Deputy Director of the Centre for Transformative Innovation at Swinburne.
He is currently the lead chief investigator of two Australian Research Council (ARC) Grant projects:

  1. The relationship between firm innovation and performance and the role of government and;
  2. The role of branding and international trademarks in global value chains. Transformative Innovation at Swinburne.

Alfons’ research, which has been published in Research Policy, Rand Journal and Review of Economics and Statistics, focuses on:

  • the microeconometric analysis of innovation
  • intellectual property rights protection
  • firm performance
  • international trade.

He is also a chief investigator in the ARC Linkage Project, Identifying technological trajectories using machine learning algorithms.
Alfons has also carried out extensive consultation on program monitoring and impact evaluation in the areas of innovation, trade and globalisation policies for Australian government institutions and international organisations.
