Swinburne University of Technology has maintained its position among the world’s top 300 universities, placing 291 in the QS World University Rankings 2027, moving up three spots from last year. This result reflects Swinburne's strengths in research impact and global engagement. 

Swinburne’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research, Professor Karen Hapgood says these strengths are key to Swinburne’s global impact.

“This year’s result reflects Swinburne’s focus on impact-led, industry-connected research and our ability to build meaningful partnerships. Together, these strengths allow us to deliver meaningful outcomes on a global scale,” she says. 

“While we are more than our rank, we are proud to be named alongside some of the top universities in the world.”

The QS World University Rankings assesses universities across nine key performance indicators, these include academic reputation, citations per faculty, employer reputation, employment outcomes, faculty student ratio, international faculty, international research network, international students and sustainability. 

Swinburne continues to perform strongly in research-focused indicators this year, including citations per faculty and academic reputation, reflecting the global influence and quality of its research. 

Swinburne also performed well in measures relating to global engagement, specifically international students.  

The QS Rankings drew on the analysis of 21 million academic papers and 222 million recorded citations, alongside input from 1.6 million academics and over 600,000 employers across 106 locations.
