Swinburne student awarded Women in Water Scholarship

Swinburne Environmental Science student, Hayley Mildenhall, has been awarded the Melbourne Water ‘Women in Water Scholarship’.

The scholarship is awarded to Victorian female university students in their final year of Engineering or Environmental Science, and supports them as they take their next steps towards a career in water.

The scholarship is worth $5,000 and includes the opportunity to undertake work experience with Melbourne Water during semester breaks and after graduating, and to attend Melbourne Water networking events.

Hayley will be eligible for a further $2,000 once she has completed her degree.

“I am delighted to be a recipient of the Melbourne Water ‘Women in Water Scholarship’,” says Hayley.

“To be one of the 10 girls awarded the scholarship out of almost 140 applicants is unbelievable.”

Hayley was encouraged to apply for the scholarship by Swinburne Senior Lecturer, Dr Francois Malherbe, from the Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology.

“I would like to thank my lecturer, Dr Malherbe, for his guidance with the application process and for encouraging me to take up opportunities in my desired field of employment,” says Hayley.

After her studies at Swinburne, Hayley plans to pursue a career in water quality monitoring.

“This scholarship will help me create connections within the water industry and, in particular, at Melbourne Water, where I would love to work at one day,” she says.

Melbourne Water works on behalf of the community to manage and protect Melbourne’s major water resources.
