Professor John Pollaers OAM has been appointed the new Chancellor of Swinburne University of Technology.

He will succeed current Chancellor, Mr Graham Goldsmith, taking up a five year term on 1 February 2019.

Professor Pollaers has a distinguished international career in the consumer products and advanced manufacturing industries and brings significant experience from across the public and private sectors.

He is Chairman of the Australian Advanced Manufacturing Council and Chairman of the Australian Industry and Skills Committee.

In September 2017 he was appointed Chair of the Aged Care Workforce Strategy Taskforce for the Federal Government.

He was also a member of the Prime Minister’s Industry 4.0 Taskforce.

Professor Pollaers has been chief executive and director of major companies, including Pacific Brands and Foster’s Group Limited.

He holds an MBA from INSEAD and Macquarie University, as well as degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in June 2018, for service to the manufacturing sector, to education, and to business.

Swinburne has been grateful for Mr Goldsmith’s sound leadership as Chancellor and for his generous and wise contributions over his years on Council.
