Swinburne is celebrating the launch of Professor Trevor Barr’s new novel, Grand Intentions.
Professor Barr is one of Australia’s best-known media and telecommunications commentators, and a popular Emeritus Professor in Swinburne’s Media and Communication department.
Grand Intentions is inspired by real events with fictional characters, capturing the drastic changes that have taken place in the Australian telecommunications industry over the last decade.
The novel centres on a telecommunications carrier called Telco One, a corporation undergoing full privatisation, under a new brand of senior managers imported from the United States.
The staff of Telco One face new era of turmoil where there are both winners and losers, but with lasting effects on their lives and the character of this extraordinary Australian corporation.
Professor Barr is the author of four books used as references in university media and telecommunications courses and influential in policy formation.
In 2007, Professor Barr was awarded the Charles Todd medal for ‘Communicator of the Year’ and was the Consumer Co-Chair of the Telstra Consumer Consultative council for six years until 2008.
Grand Intentions launched at Readings bookshop, Hawthorn on Wednesday 21 September and is now available for purchase.
