New appointment to boost digital innovation at Swinburne

Leading researcher and administrator, Professor Jugdutt (Jack) Singh, has been appointed Director of the Digital Innovation and Translation at Swinburne University of Technology.
Professor Singh will join Swinburne from Sense-T, where he was Director of Research.
“Professor Singh’s appointment at Swinburne will help us to grow and support our digital innovation capability and impact, in line with our research and innovation strategy,” says Swinburne Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and development), Professor Aleksandar Subic.
“We are forming comprehensive capabilities in Big Data and Data Analytics, Cybersecurity, Internet of Things, Automation and Advanced Visualisation, to support and advance our research through collaboration in a wide range of disciplines and application areas across Swinburne.”
The Digital Innovation Lab is part of Swinburne’s new Innovation Precinct that will position Swinburne as a centre of entrepreneurial activity, integrating research, new business development and commercialisation. One of Australia’s most innovative digital start-ups, Bondi Labs, will be joining the Swinburne’s Innovation Precinct in October.

Professor Singh is recognised for his leadership in translational research and development, innovation, technology transfer and commercialisation in partnership with industry, governments and other universities across the transport, food and agriculture, healthcare, defence, energy and environment sectors.

Professor Singh was previously the Director of NICTA Victoria, responsible for bringing together leading Victorian researchers in ICT with industry and government as part of NICTA's national contribution to solving big issues using digital technologies.
La Trobe University
Prior to joining NICTA, he was Research Professor of Micro/Nanotechnology and Director of the Centre for Technology Infusion at La Trobe University, focusing on strategic and translational research in ICT.
