International leader in Control Theory and Control Engineering, Professor Qing-Long Han, has been appointed Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research Quality) and Distinguished Professor at Swinburne University of Technology.

He will join Swinburne from Griffith University in May 2016.

“In his role, Professor Han will help strengthen Swinburne’s focus on research quality through engagement with faculties and centres to identify and implement quality indicators across disciplines and manage quality development initiatives,” says Swinburne Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Development) Professor Aleksandar Subic.

Professor Han is listed by Thomson Reuters as one of only six Highly Cited (Hi Ci) engineering researchers in Australia, and is included in Thomson Reuters’ The World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds: 2014 and 2015.

He is also a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and other peak professional bodies.

Professor Han has held many notable academic appointments including the prestigious Chang Jiang (Yangtze River) Scholar Chair Professor by China’s Ministry of Education, and Laureate Professor at Central Queensland University.

He has managerial experience as Griffith University’s Deputy Dean (Research) of Griffith Sciences, more than eight years as Central Queensland University’s Associate Dean (Research and Innovation) of the Higher Education Division/Faculty and more than six years as Founding Director of the Centre for Intelligent and Networked Systems.

Professor Han has an impressive research track record, securing more than 26 competitive grants and supervising more than 20 higher degree by research students to completion.

As well as publishing more than 300 fully-refereed papers in prestigious journals and leading conferences, Professor Han’s research work has been cited more than 10,500 times with an h-index of 50.

He has also served as an expert assessor Australian Research Council and other international research funding agencies.
