Professor Bronwyn Fox will join Swinburne University of Technology in December 2015 as the new Director of the Factory of the Future.

Professor Fox comes to Swinburne from Deakin University, where she was Research Director of the Carbon Nexus facility – a $100 million research precinct development in Geelong focused on advanced materials and manufacturing.

Swinburne’s new Factory of the Future will help industry explore ideas and solutions for advanced manufacturing of high value-add products.

Swinburne Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Development) Professor Aleksandar Subic says Professor Fox is the ideal candidate for the new position.

“She has overseen the development of Carbon Nexus at Deakin and has developed a high impact, multidisciplinary research program in collaboration with industry,” Professor Subic said.

“We look forward to working with Professor Fox to help drive the development of Swinburne’s Factory of the Future to the next level in partnership with industry.

“This strategic research facility aims to support the growth of advanced manufacturing industry by facilitating research driven innovation and development of high value add products and processes.”

Professor Fox says she is very excited to be joining Swinburne.

“Swinburne has a significant opportunity to play a leading role in the global challenge to integrate the design, automation and control of manufacturing systems,” Professor Fox said.

“This will build on Swinburne’s reputation for sustaining strong strategic partnerships with industry.

“The vision of Professor Subic and the team at Swinburne to further develop the Factory of the Future into a vibrant showcase for innovative manufacturing is inspiring. I’m thrilled to be joining the team to realise this vision.”

Professor Fox has developed a strong partnership with the Victorian Centre for Advanced Materials Manufacturing that has delivered more than $9 million of research projects in collaboration with industry both nationally and internationally.
