Swinburne students organise Faces of Melbourne exhibition
In Summary
Swinburne University of Technology Events Management students have put their skills to the test, by organising an art exhibition that will raise funds for headspace Hawthorn.
Launching on Thursday April 16 and working off a budget of $2000, Swinburne students will present ‘Faces of Melbourne’, a portrait exhibition which will showcase eight young up and coming Melbourne-based artists, at the Brunswick Arts Space.
Running during National Youth Week, the aim of the exhibition is to raise money and awareness for headspace to continue their work assisting young people in crisis.
Swinburne events management Course Leader, Jeremy Glover, said that the students chose to organise an event that raised money for youth mental health because it was an issue they felt was important to them.
“The students involved all agreed that mental health is an issue that affects many of their peers. They wanted the opportunity to work on an event where they could give back to a cause that helps youth struggling with a range of health issues,” Mr Glover said.
The students involved have organised the entire event, which has included sourcing a space, finding artists, arranging sponsorships and running the launch night.
The exhibition will run from Thursday 16 April - Sunday 19 April and visitors will have the opportunity to purchase the artwork on display.
The launch evening will include a meet and greet with the artists, entertainment by musician Maddy Herbert and DJ Cocoa Noire and complimentary mocktails and canapés.
Headspace is an initiative that provides youth with free and easy access to support and information on a range of issues, including mental, physical and sexual health, alcohol and drug issues and education and employment services. They provide qualified, confidential services and support for youth in need.
National Youth Week is an Australian Government, State, Territory and Local Government Initiative.
Swinburne’s Diploma of Events is a twelve month course. If you're interested in studying events at Swinburne, come along to Swinburne's Midyear Information Evening.
