Business heading to Swinburne for big ideas at Industry Open Day
In Summary
More than 50 students and researchers will be showcasing their game-changing industry collaboration projects at Swinburne University of Technology’s Industry Open Day on Tuesday 2 December, 4.30-7.30pm at the Hawthorn campus.
From student-led breakthroughs that are giving doctors at the Royal Children’s Hospital new ways to monitor patient breathing, to ultrasonic sound waves that are being used to separate cream for the dairy industry, the unique event will inspire business innovators and creatives alike.
“We are inviting the local business community to begin a conversation with us and see firsthand the sophistication and scope of collaborative projects that are possible when partnering with a university,” Andrew Smith, Vice President (Engagement) said.
“This event will help strengthen Swinburne’s relationship with industry and the communities that we serve by allowing us to show them how we can help solve their business challenges and drive innovation.
“We believe universities have an important role to play in the innovation space. We can be the public forum where conversations about concepts and the future direction of technologies, manufacturing and markets can occur and we can deliver outcomes that address specific industry challenges.”
Industry Open Day will also encompass the launch of a lifesaving bushfire shelter, developed in collaboration with Swinburne researchers, Frankston Concrete Products, Diver Consolidated Industries, Pyropanel Australia, Exova Warringtonfire and VCAMM, using state and federal government grants.
Sanctuary Bushfire Shelter is an above-ground shelter that can accommodate five people and withstand one hour of bushfire Attack Level – Flame Zone (BAL-FZ), the highest bushfire risk level. It will be available for viewing in the courtyard of the Advanced Technologies Centre, with the official launch taking place at 6.30pm.
Industry Open Day will be filled with an exciting range of activities that highlight the value of university-industry collaboration and showcase how projects and student-industry collaborations are targeting real industry challenges through innovative thinking and novel solutions.
Industry Open Day is an initiative of and partly funded by Melbourne East – Regional Development Australia, encouraging collaboration between research and local businesses in Melbourne’s south and east.
Visit the official Industry Open Day page for more information on the projects that will be featured on the day.
