Important notes to consider

Meiji Gakuin University is a competitive destination with limited places. As such, please put careful consideration into choosing your second and third preference as back-up options.

Students applying to MGU need to meet the following requirements:

  • Completed at least 1 year of study at Swinburne (in their current degree) at the time of application;
  • Have a minimum GPA of 2.0/4.0 (strict requirement)

If you're interested in studying regular courses that are taught in Japanese, you'll need to have studied Japanese language for minimum of one year at the university course levels prior to arriving Japan; or have Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N4 level or a JPT score of 375 or higher.

Courses available for exchange students

Although it's not required, it's recommended that exchange students take the Intensive and Practical Japanese Language courses at their base campus. However, students are allowed to take a mix of courses offered at both the Shirokane and Yokohama campuses should their daily class schedule allow for the commute (90 minutes travel between the campuses).

Comprehensive Student Insurance

All exchange students will be mandatorily enrolled in the "Comprehensive Insurance for Students Lives Coupled with "Gakkensai" For International Students",  in addition to the standard Gakkensai (Personal Accident Insurance for Students Pursuing Education and Research).

This comprehensive insurance is designed to cover not only accidents during university activities but also medical expenses for illness and injury in daily life, as well as personal liability (e.g., compensation for property damage or injury to others).
