PrimeSCI! September School Holiday Science Workshops | Wantirna
Attention Junior Scientists! Get ready for three days filled with hands-on holiday science for curious kids from Kinder to Year 6! The PrimeSCI! Team are excited to welcome you to Swinburne Wantirna in September 2025.
Join us for fascinating physics, brilliant biology, chemistry galore and much more! Workshops are tailored for each age group with exciting experiments and investigations for everyone.
Science Workshops
Investigate materials and their properties. Test out changing the shape, temperature and amount of pressure on different materials to find out if you can change their properties. Watch out for nappies and oobleck in this workshop! (1 hr)
Foundation - Year 2
Explore the movement of sound and light in this beginners' physics workshop. Use torches, prisms, mirrors, fake ear drums and more as you make light and sound travel, bounce and move through objects. (1hr)
Foundation - Year 4
Learn about different types of rocks and the processes that move them around the surface of the Earth. Examine specimens from our mineral collection while investigating weathering and erosion. Explore links between Earth's water cycle and rock cycle in hands-on activities. (1hr)
Year 2 - 4
Join us for our coolest hands-on chemistry lesson (-78°C)! Find out more about changes in states of matter as you work with this special material. (1hr)
Year 3 - 6
Water is an important material to us here on planet Earth. In this workshop beginner chemists will experiment with using water for both mixing and unmixing. (1hr)
4YO Kinder - Year 2
Potions, fire, and explosions! Hone your scientific observation skills to discover the differences between physical and chemical change through a series of exciting investigations. Together we'll learn to explain how everyday phenomena occur at the particle level. (1hr)
Year 3 - 6
Mammal or bird? Fish or reptile? Have a close look using magnifying glasses and microscopes. Use our collection of unique animal artefacts to find out more about how biologists sort animals into groups. Make your own animal print! (1hr)
Foundation - Year 4
What makes heat? How does it move around? Use thermometers, investigate the movement of heat, and decorate your own colour-changing item to take home. Start your education in thermodynamics here! (1hr)
Foundation -Year 4
Search through water samples from two different wetlands to find the surprising waterbugs that live in these habitats. Find out how scientists use these freshwater invertebrates to learn about the health of our local waterways. (1hr)
Foundation - Year 6
