Attention Junior Scientists! Get ready for three days filled with hands-on holiday science for curious kids from Kinder to Year 8.

The PrimeSCI! Team is excited to offer workshops covering Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth and Space Sciences!

Science Workshops

Join us inside a scientist’s bathroom! Experiment with soap, create baby elephant toothpaste and make your own fizzy bath bombs, as we find the chemistry hiding the back of your bathroom cabinet. (1hr)

Year 2 - 6

Why does it ooze, plop and stretch? Mix up some of our favourite slimes in the lab and compare their properties. (1hr)

Year 2 - 6

Explore why planet Earth is ideal for supporting life within our Solar System by investigating temperature, our atmosphere and the water cycle. Make your own baby planet to take home. (1hr)

Kinder - Year 2

An introduction to physics and forces for our youngest scientists, developing the use of scientific language to explain everyday experiences. Join us as we learn more about pushes, pulls, friction, gravity, tension and torque while using our toys. (1hr)

Kinder - Year 2

Learn about the awesome power of Earth’s atmosphere as you investigate air pressure, wind, clouds and cyclones. Why don’t we get cyclones in Melbourne and what causes these high wind speeds? (1hr)

Year 2 - 6

Step back in time and join Mr Sinclair for one final class in the high school lab of the 1980s. Learn from demonstrations with unique equipment, combined with Ralph’s clear explanations as we investigate the forces that influence how objects move, using Newton’s Laws of Motion. Make your own jumping bean as part of this classic physics workshop. (1.5hr)

Year 5 - 8

A rainbow of colourful chemistry experiments for you to investigate, including stinky cabbage, un-mixing colours and a colour-changing surprise. Highlights the skills of questioning and testing scientific ideas. (1hr)

Kinder - Year 2

Examine unknown mammal jaws, using your scientific skills to measure and record what you see. Learn more about your own teeth and study clues to identify the mystery animal using teeth from our fossil and bone collections. (1hr)

Year 2 - 4

An introduction to robotics and coding for our youngest students. Learn about communicating with robots, giving instructions and programming, as you use the cute Bee Bot robots to complete different challenges on our classroom floor. This workshop is best suited for kids with no or very little robotics experience. (1hr)

Kinder - Year 1
