Attention Junior Scientists! Get ready for three days filled with hands-on holiday science for curious kids from Prep to Year 8.

The PrimeSCI! Team is excited to return to Swinburne’s Hawthorn campus, joined by Holly’s Bees and Southern Ocean Education these holidays.

Science Workshops

An introduction to space for our youngest astronomers. Learn about the Earth, the Moon, the Sun and other stars.  (1 hr)

Prep - Grade 2

Explore the magic of light as you catch, bounce, split and focus to understand how light travels. (1 hr)

Grade 3 - 6

Learn about different types of rocks, weathering, erosion and the rock cycle while examining specimens from our mineral collection. Warning – some things in Minecraft are not real! (1 hr)

Prep - Grade 4

Explore forces and motion through the fun of toys. Find out about how pushes, pulls, friction and gravity make things move.  (1 hr)

Prep - Grade 2

Find out about different groups of chemicals, conduct pH experiments and make your own bath bombs to take home.  (1 hr)

Grade 5 - Year 8

Southern Ocean Education brings us this special practical investigation. Fully dissect a squid, identify anatomy and, of course, check out the ink sac. A marine science lesson you won’t forget! (2 hr)

Grade 5 - Year 8

Solid, liquid, gas plus two more states of matter! Enter the world of atoms and molecules and find out more about chemistry around us.  (1 hr)

Grade 3 - 6

Look at the science of renewable energy and take part in activities to learn more about energy and electricity. Please dress appropriately for the day’s weather, as this lesson includes outdoor activities. (1 hr)

Grade 3 - 6

Hands-on learning about Victoria’s amazing native bee species, with a focus on habitat and sustainability. Make your own insect hotel to take home.  (1 hr)

Prep - Grade 6

Workshop details

Enrolment fee

  • $24.50 per child for each 1 hour workshop (plus $0.50 Trybooking Fee)
  • $29.50 per child for each 1.5 hour workshop (plus $0.50 Trybooking Fee)

Please note

  • Children must be booked into their correct school year level only.
  • Children attending multiple sessions must be supervised by a parent/guardian during break times.
