Time and Frequency Research at the University of Western Australia

Dr Andre Luiten

Department of Physics, University of Western Australia

3.30pm, Friday 23 August 2002, Seminar Room (AR103), Graduate Research Centre, Swinburne

The Frequency Standards and Metrology (FSM) group in the Physics Department of UWA has been pursuing research into microwave and optical clock technology for the last six years. In this talk I will present a summary of all of the research that we undertake within our group and show how we have attempted to link the optical and microwave research using femtosecond laser technology. In particular I will talk about our cryogenic sapphire microwave oscillators that demonstrate a frequency stability (the key figure of merit) superior to any other oscillator.
