This hands-on course teaches you how to safely service, diagnose, and repair domestic and commercial Type A gas appliances. Delivered face-to-face by experienced industry professionals, it supports VBA gas fitting licensing and opens doors to specialist roles in the field. 

This is a nationally approved vocational course that is recognised throughout Australia.

Admissions

The SS-PLUMGAS skill set requires the completion of one unit, and two prerequisite units. Entry requirements apply to this skill set. 

This skill set provides the accredited unit (CPCPGS4022) prescribed by the Victorian Building Authority to be eligible to become registered or licenced in this class. You will be issued a Statement of Attainment for the successful completion of the units.

All units from this skill set are implicit to CPC40920 Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services.

  • CPCPGS4022 Service Type A gas appliances has two prerequisite units: 
    • CPCPCM2043 Carry out WHS requirements (no prerequisite)
    • CPCPGS3053 Disconnect and reconnect Type A gas appliances (has a prerequisite CPCPCM2043).

Candidates who have successfully completed the following prerequisite units or the previous version of them as part of a Certificate III in Plumbing, may be considered for credit transfer:

  • CPCPCM2043 Carry out WHS requirements or CPCPCM2043A Carry out WHS requirements (equivalent)
  • CPCPGS3053 Disconnect and reconnect Type A gas appliances or CPCPGS3053A Disconnect and reconnect Type A gas appliances (equivalent).

Other requirements

One unit required for entry: 

  • CPCPGS4011 Design and size consumer gas installations
  • CPCPGS4011C Design and size consumer gas installation.

Credit transfer

Credit transfer is the recognition of academic credits gained through formal study (i.e. units of competency) completed either at another institute or in another qualification. The total amount of credit will vary from individual to individual, based on the unit/s that have been successfully completed. 

Recognition of prior learning

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is the process of transferring the skills and knowledge that you have acquired over your lifetime (irrespective of how they were obtained) against the requirements of the unit.  

RPL is an assessment process that requires you to provide evidence that demonstrates how you meet the requirements of the unit/s. The amount and types of evidence you will need to provide will depend on the unit requirements.
