Swinburne Youth Space Innovation Challenge
The Swinburne Youth Space Innovation Challenge is a university-accredited, curriculum-aligned program for students in Year 10, 11 and 12.
Calling all Year 10 to 12 students with an astronomical passion for science!
Want the chance to win a prize that’s out of this world? Working in small teams, students will develop their STEM skills as they learn about microgravity, designing experiments for space, and the career opportunities in Australia’s space industry (plus what it takes to get there). And at the end of the 11-week program, you’ll have the chance to win a prize by pitching your team’s space solution!
Get an ATAR boost for your Swinburne course application
Year 11 and 12 students who successfully complete Stage II of the challenge will receive an ATAR boost of 2 aggregate points towards their Swinburne course application.
What’s involved?
Challenge participants will get a taste of life as a Swinburne astronomy student as they:
Research
Discover how to create solutions to real space challenges using concepts taught in Swinburne undergraduate units
Grow
Learn from Swinburne’s astronomy academics and students in weekly mentoring sessions
Explore
Run classroom experiments on real materials returned from space with the hands-on Analysis @ School kit
Pitch to win!
Present their space solution to a panel of experts for a chance to win a prize that’s out of this world!
Participating students will work in teams of four to six members (schools can have multiple teams), with an expected workload of two to four hours per week.
