Leah Hallis
Advanced Diploma of Screen (Film and TV)
"In high school, I always wondered when on earth I would ever need to know about calculus or Greek philosophy. I often felt like I was being taught things that would never be needed when I reached the real world.
After completing the Advanced Diploma of Screen (Film and TV) at Swinburne, I can assure you that there was not one thing I learned that has been useless or irrelevant in the Film and TV industry.
Not only did we learn what was on the well-rounded curriculum, but so many other important skills essential for going into the work place: time management, people skills, presentation skills, how to trouble shoot and so on.
Swinburne has amazing facilities, but it also has the key ingredient to a successful program, teachers who care about the outcome of their students."
Julie Goss
Diploma of Theatre Arts
"After graduating from Swinburne I worked with Oddsocks – a professional theatre company formed by other Swinburne graduates – before going on to study at NIDA. I’m now a member of the Bell Shakespeare Company and have been awarded a scholarship to work with London’s Globe Theatre Company."
Jess Bosnic
Diploma of Costume for Performance
"I’ve always had a keen interest in theatre and fashion and it was the merging of these two passions that me to study the Diploma of Costume for Performance at Swinburne TAFE. Having completed work experience in London at Angels the Costumiers and I won a scholarship to work abroad. I went on to work at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden and Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London where I’m still employed. Part of my role is to teach16th Century costume making techniques to new staff."
Sarah Cameron
Bachelor of Design (Communication Design)
"When I visited the Open Days of all the different universities, Swinburne staff proved the most friendly and the student work was of a high standard.
The degree is very good at bringing you back to reality. At university you do work on some fun stuff, however the teachers at Swinburne are very driven to teach you to understand the importance of creating work for clients. They train you to find out what your clients want.
In my third year I applied for the industry placement program. Industry placement gives you experience and opens your eyes to what is happening in the communication design industry. It also allows you to make contacts and gain confidence."
Kable Cole
Bachelor of Circus Arts
"I chose this course because I was born into a circus family and I love it. I thrive on the physical challenge of circus and have a passion for performing.
Swinburne is the only university in Australia to offer a course like this – it also offers excellent facilities for students. The Prahran campus is relaxed and casual and the people are friendly and helpful.
The course is great because it’s so unusual, yet you can gain a degree from it."
