This unit aims to increase students' awareness and understanding of conceptual and contemporary issues and concepts related to economic development in Australia and countries in the process of development. The unit also provides students an ability to reach independent and informed assessments of development issues and their possible solutions.

Learning outcomes

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:

  • Research and investigate issues related to local and international economic development
  • Collaboratively analyse and evaluate theoretical concepts related to economic development economic development issues, problems and policies
  • Demonstrate analytical thinking related to the complex mix of forces that can both foster and hinder economic development locally and internationally
  • Evaluate the main policy solutions put forward by governments and various international agencies identifying their limitations independently and collaboratively
  • Research, analyse and evaluate policy related options and outcomes related to development issues and policies
