Aims and objectives
This unit runs concurrently with Integrated Professional Placement B. The aim of this unit is to provide a learning opportunity for students to undertake a second six months of supported work experience that is relevant to their discipline of studies. This unit aims to further develop each student’s understanding of the professional workplace, whilst continuing to develop a range of employability attributes sought by employers. Whilst on placement students will demonstrate an understanding of the complexity of the professional workplace, effectively participate and contribute to the workplace, and self-evaluate as a professional practitioner for improving future practice.

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
1. Re/negotiate objectives and describe the specific requirements of the placement;
2. Undertake work experience as identified; and
3. Monitor and self-evaluate own performance and learning for improved practice.

• Initial contact. PPO contacts student and Workplace Supervisor by phone or email. As part of this contact the PPO will ensure that the Workplace Supervisor is aware of the requirements around setting the objectives for the placement, and the subsequent evaluation process (report).
• Maintaining contact via telephone and email during the placement.
• Referring issues to the Unit Convenor.
General skills outcomes
Content
This unit provides supported work experience in a real world context. Students will work in the industry/ professional/ community placement to which they have been assigned, under the supervision of their Workplace Supervisor, and with support from their Swinburne Placement Manger and other university staff as required.
Prior to commencing their expected placement, students must complete the online Professional Placement Preparation Module, which provides practical advice and workshops, in preparation for employment.
After placements are arranged, students are allocated a Swinburne Placement Manager, in addition to their employer-allocated Workplace Supervisor. Swinburne Placement Managers may visit their allocated student(s) at the workplace and will maintain contact via telephone and email during the placement, and refer any issues to the Unit Convenor.
Approval Criteria
The Professional Placements team approve students to enrol in this unit. Approval from Professional Placements is based on the following criteria:
1. Eligibility requirements met
2. Work placement secured
3. Preparation Module completed
