Aims and objectives

This clinical placement unit integrates, consolidates and provides opportunity for students to apply acute musculoskeletal, neurological or cardiorespiratory physiotherapy knowledge and skills. This clinical placement focuses on professional experiential learning and its application within acute or community settings.

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
1. Critically evaluate and reflect on the research evidence that supports the assessment and management of common neurological, cardiorespiratory and orthopaedic/musculoskeletal disorders
2. Safely examine common neurological, orthopaedic/musculoskeletal and cardiorespiratory conditions and their clinical presentations
3. Apply sound clinical reasoning with regards to diagnosis and management of common neurological, cardiorespiratory and orthopaedic/musculoskeletal conditions
4. Effectively and safely perform physiotherapy intervention for common neurological, cardiorespiratory and orthopaedic/musculoskeletal conditions
5. Effectively communicate clinical information to patients/clients, carers, other healthcare practitioners and other stakeholders
6. Analyse complex information to develop physiotherapy short- and long-term management plans for patients/clients
