Academic Progress – Special Requirements
In addition to the standard academic progress rules, the BIT course has the following additional academic progress rules which are established in accordance with Academic Courses Regulation 62(2):

1.  A student is classified as 'at risk' of unsatisfactory progress if they:
a. fail any unit of study
b. do not achieve a 65% average overall
c. do not attend classes on a regular basis without acceptable evidence of incapacity
d. do not attend all the required program activities without acceptable evidence of incapacity
e. behave in a manner which breaches the Swinburne Student Charter whilst on a professional placement
A BIT student who is classified as 'at risk' will be required to attend a hearing with the BIT Progress Review Panel.  The Panel may impose sanctions on a student's scholarship, including having the scholarship varied, cancelled or suspended.  Scholarships will not be varied, cancelled or suspended without students first being offered the opportunity to explain their circumstances before a Student Progress Review Panel.

2.  A student is classified as 'unsatisfactory progress' and will be required to ‘show cause’ if they:
a. fail a unit of study for the second time
b. fail a total of three (3) or more units of study in either one segment or over two (2) consecutive academic segments;
c. fail a Professional Placement or Work Experience in Industry unit
d. have their professional placement terminated early by an industry partner. In the case of early termination of an industry placement by an industry partner, the student will be deemed as having 'unsatisfactory progress' and a progress review hearing may be convened within 2 weeks of the cessation of the placement.
Students who are identified as having unsatisfactory progress and required to ‘show cause’ will be subject to the show cause provisions in the Progress Review section of the Academic Progress Policy
