In Summary

Swinburne University of Technology has relaunched its long-standing aviation conference as the inaugural Swinburne Aviation Leadership Summit – a unique event for the industry’s emerging leaders.

The two-day summit will focus on building the leadership capability of the aviation sector throughout the Asia Pacific region. It combines the capabilities of the university as an innovator in higher education for the aviation sector with more recent initiatives being undertaken by the Swinburne Leadership Institute.

The summit will provide delegates with an update on the latest leadership development practices in aviation and will also offer an opportunity to establish relationships with high-potential leaders from all areas of the industry.

“The summit is intended as an annual gathering of the industry to focus on a topic that is critical to the future of the aviation sector right across the region,” independent Summit Chairman, Paul Fox, said.

“This future is entirely dependent on the quality of our emerging leaders – those talented individuals who will be running the industry in a few years.  With the demands on our industry leaders along with the nature of the business changing so radically, our approach to identifying, nurturing and growing these leaders has to change radically as well.”

Air Chief Marshall Sir Angus Houston has agreed to be the ongoing Patron of the initiative.

“Events like the Aviation Leadership Summit are timely initiatives that will have far reaching positive consequences for the future sustainability and productivity of our industry. Building the capability of our emerging leaders has to be a major priority for the industry and I applaud all those involved in making this happen,” Sir Angus said.

The summit has been developed in collaboration with the Australian Transport Safety Bureau and QBE Aviation Insurance. A range of high-profile aviation industry leaders will be presenting at the conference, including:

Tony Fraser (Managing Director, Airbus Group Australia Pacific); Mark Skidmore (Director of Aviation Safety & CEO, CASA); Martin Dolan (Chief Commissioner, ATSB); Nigel Fanning (Head of Commercial and Operations Improvement, Jetstar Airways); Tim Jenkins (Executive Manager, Group Safety & Health, Office of the CEO,
Qantas Airways), Matt Hall (Red Bull Air Race Pilot & Team Owner).

Non-aviation sector speakers include: Laura Anderson (Chairman, Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival & Board Member, Australian Grand Prix Corporation); Graham Goldsmith (Chancellor, Swinburne University of Technology & Non-Executive Director, SEEK Ltd), Dr Tangerine Holt (Executive Director, Australian-American Fulbright Commission).

Emerging leaders from all segments of the aviation and aerospace industry, including: airlines, airports, ANSPs, government agencies/departments, flight training organisations, OEMs, MROs, GSE suppliers, industry bodies and associations are invited to attend.
