Strategies For Success

Transitioning to tertiary study can be daunting. That’s why we offer Strategies for Success to equip you with the necessary skills and knowledge to tackle the academic demands of university. 

What does it involve?

Open to all new and current students, Strategies for Success is a series of special multi-day workshops offered as part of orientation each semester. It's designed to give you the strategies to succeed, so you feel better prepared when classes commence and can enjoy your university experience as much as possible. 

The program is run across five days and is held two weeks before the commencement of classes. New students and those who are ‘at risk’ are strongly encouraged to attend to help boost your confidence and improve your academic performance.

Topics include:

  • What skills do I need to be a successful student?
  • How do I get and stay motivated?
  • How do I balance study, paid work, family and leisure time?
  • How do I get the most out of my lectures and tutorials?
  • What Academic Support services are available?

How will I benefit?

Students who attended this program in recent years received an average mark 4-5% higher than students who did not attend. 

By attending Strategies for Success, you will:

  • Build valuable skills to help you if issues arise during your studies
  • Receive specific study requirements relevant to your faculty
  • Opportunity to meet other students in your faculty
  • Introduce you to a suite of support services including, academic development consultation services, language and academic skill support, student mentor activities; and careers guidance

Am I eligible?

Whether you are coming to Swinburne from secondary school, vocational education or returning to study, Strategies for Success is open to all students. 

How to apply?

Registrations for Strategies for Success open prior to orientation each semester. Registration is ideal but not necessary, please feel free to come along to as many sessions as you can. 

You can attend either the 5-day program or a 1-day program tailored for international students. Strategies for Success includes sessions for students in each faculty.
