This unit aims to develop foundational quantity surveying knowledge and skills, enabling students to understand professional roles and legal responsibilities, interpret construction documentation, apply ANZSMM principles, prepare bills of quantities for low‑rise residential projects, and utilise digital measurement tools to support accurate and efficient cost documentation.

Unit learning outcomes

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:

  1. Explain the role, responsibilities and legal liabilities of Quantity Surveyors in a construction project
  2. Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications relevant to building construction projects
  3. Interpret and Apply Australian and New Zealand Standard Method of Measurement (ANZSMM) for measurement of building works
  4. Prepare bills of quantities of simple low-rise residential buildings following the ANZSMM standards
  5. Use digital tools for measurements and bills of quantities
