Frequently Asked Questions

Disability
Liaison Officers
The Disability Liaison Officers on each campus are available
to assist students to access and fully participate in study
by determining their support needs and clarifying the information
that needs to be passed on to academic staff.
Making an appointment
Students with disabilities are
invited to make an appointment with the responsible Disability
Liaison Officer on their campus when enrolling in a Swinburne
University course. If, during the course of your studies,
you are injured or suffer an ongoing medical condition that
impacts on your studies, you should also contact a Disability
Liaison Officer for services and advice.

How the Disability
Liaison Officer can help
Students are typically requested to provide information
that will assist Swinburne in the planning and implementation
of appropriate support services. The responsible Disability
Liaison Officer will then discuss, with each student individually,
the ways the disability may impact on study in order to
determine the appropriate support services to be put in
place.
The Disability Support Service can arrange in-class adaptive
equipment for students to undertake their program of studies
for TAFE or Higher Education. Students who may require in-class
adaptive equipment should contact the Disability Support
Service for TAFE or Higher Education to discuss adjustments
to standard class setups.
Once the services are determined, a service plan will be
developed and a copy given to the student. A copy will also
be kept at the relevant office and, with the student's permission,
a third copy may be forwarded to the relevant academic staff
and to Julia Ross Recruitment (if required).
These services can also be reviewed at any time, particularly
if the student's circumstances change.
