Some of the many reasons why you should choose Swinburne include:

Personalised, high-quality teaching

As a postgrad student at Swinburne, you'll enjoy the benefits of a personal style of education and easy access to teaching staff. Teaching staff who know industry because they work in it.

But don't take our word for it. See what independent judges are saying about Swinburne:

The Good Universities Guide rankings

The 2010 Good Universities (Postgraduate) Guide has given Swinburne a maximum five-star rating for teaching quality, generic skills and graduate satisfaction. This is the second year in a row that we've been ranked the best university in Melbourne within all three categories.

World university rankings

In 2009, Swinburne was for the first time named amongst the world's top universities in both these prestigious rankings:

Expanded career opportunities

Many Swinburne postgrad courses will create career pathways that simply aren't available to graduates without such a qualification.

That means that you'll benefit from postgrad study no matter whether you're looking to start your career at a more advanced level, progress to a higher position or make a total career change.

In short, postgrad qualifications will add weight to a CV. Many employers will take them to represent an advanced level of maturity and proficiency. And that gives you an edge when it comes to job interviews.

Upgraded skills

Swinburne postgraduate courses build the type of hands-on skills that businesses are looking for - teamwork, analysis, negotiation, problem-solving and research to name just a few.

Graduate Certificates

A Swinburne graduate certificate in Business Management is a smart option for those looking to fill a skills gap or improve upon existing knowledge.

Swinburne TAFE delivers a selection of graduate certificates. They're perfect if you're looking to advance your established career whilst formalising your professional expertise.

These vocationally-based courses generally take no more than a year of part-time study to complete and are offered across an array of business disciplines.

Strong industry links

Swinburne was a pioneer of Industry-Based Learning in Australia, with the first program offered to undergraduate engineering students in 1963.

Over the years these strong links with industry have spread to all the disciplines taught by Swinburne, and are reflected through our highly-relevant courses. That means our postgrad students graduate with both advanced theoretical knowledge and the skills that employers are seeking.

In fact, many Swinburne postgrad students will have an opportunity to undertake supervised project work, addressing key issues in a real world environment, or to work on projects with their own employers.

Employer sponsorship

At Swinburne we encourage employers to sponsor their employees in further study.

Our postgraduate courses are geared towards real-world learning that benefits both students and organisations.

Benefits for employers

Your employer will benefit from the enhanced skills and up-to-date knowledge that you acquire as a postgrad student.

You'll undertake project work in authentic conditions and can ever work on projects with your own employer.

Benefits for students (employees)

As a student, you'll gain the skills and knowledge needed to further develop your career. And your employer may cover the costs for some or all of your professional development.

Professional recognition and accreditation

Many of Swinburne’s postgraduate courses are recognised by professional organisations, meaning that your qualification will be highly regarded in industry.

A selection are also officially accredited by industry peak bodies. By completing certain courses, you may be entitled to membership of some of Australia's most highly-regarded organisations.

Nested suite of courses

Swinburne provides students with flexible entry and exit points through our nested suite of courses.

Example

A good example is the Master of Business (Marketing), which comprises three study levels - Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma and Master.

As an earlier stage must be completed before a student can move to the next one, the system gives students a chance to assess what level of study they are comfortable at, while knowing they will receive a qualification whether they complete one, two or three stages.
