Flexible Learning

In addition to traditional on-campus study, Swinburne offers a number of flexible delivery options, including:

Timetabling

To accommodate the various needs of students, many of Swinburne's postgraduate courses include the option of alternative class times, offered in the evening or during weekends. In other words, a student's life doesn't need to change dramatically the moment they enrol.

Current and prospective students can view timetabling details of units they might wish to enrol in for the upcoming teaching period at the Allocate+ page.

Distance Education

Distance education is a flexible mode of delivery, in which on-campus attendance is either not required or kept to a minimum. Students are provided with a range of comprehensive learning materials which may include study guides, readings, set exercises and references. Some distance education programs also integrate online learning into course delivery.

The Courses section of this website features more information about distance learning.

Online Delivery

A number of Swinburne courses are available entirely online, with others offering selected online units. Students who choose to study online have access to a range of benefits and technological innovations. These may include virtual lectures, eTutors, and access to learning communities through email and group chatrooms.

Block Release

Block release mode allows students to attend classes in intensive blocks (usually for several full day sessions), rather than regular weekly classes. This is particularly beneficial for regional or interstate students who need to travel to attend campus.

In addition, some postgrad courses offer students the chance to study during summer and winter terms.

Additional Commencement Dates

Swinburne courses generally have two key intakes (late February/early March and late July/early August), however, a number also have additional commencement dates throughout the year. This means you don’t have to wait until next year to get your career on track.
