Celebrating the Centenary Singapore Style

1At the end of March, our Dean, Professor Russell Crawford, Faculty Manager Grace Sanna, Head of Psychological Sciences and Statistics, Associate Professor Glen Bates, and Graduate Programs Coordinator Kathy Diakovsky attended the graduation of nearly 100 of our postgraduate Professional Counselling students in Singapore.

Vice Chancellor Ian Young was the guest of honour at the graduation, held at the Hilton Hotel, which was followed by a well-attended Swinburne Centenary celebration.

2His Excellency, the Australian High Commissioner to Singapore, Mr Miles Kupa was also in attendance, and during the festivities, a banner congratulating Swinburne on 100 years was received by the Vice Chancellor.  To top off a fun afternoon, a champagne-cork popping ceremony demonstrated the traditional Singaporean toast: "YUMSENG!" ("Bottoms up!" in English).

All up, it was a true celebration of Swinburne’s Centenary.

1Many thanks to our partners, colleagues and guests, especially:
Executive Counselling and Training Academy (ECTA); Vice Chancellor Ian Young; Stephen Theiler; Ms Nellie Tan, Chief Executive Officer, Parkway College; Professor Tan Chue Tin, ECTA Chairman; Mr Bernie Poh, Chief Executive Officer, Mount Elizabeth Hospital (partner to ECTA); Ms Jessica Leong, Clinical Director (ECTA), Marisa Furno, Project Manager 2008 Centenary Celebrations, and the Australian High Commissioner to Singapore, Mr Miles Kupa.

Special thanks are also extended to our Singapore students, graduates, alumni and their families who helped us celebrate on the day.
