Current Projects

As a result of the recent IEL university wide review findings, key recommendations were put forward in order to achieve Swinburne's strategic goals. To support these recomendations, a series of projects were established. The current projects are as follows:

IEL Classification

This project involves the development of tools and processes to enable Swinburne to identify, evaluate, and classify IEL units and activities. Also has an educative component: as stakeholders are brought into the process they come to better understand what qualifies as IEL and how to enhance IEL best practice in units and activities.

IBL Database

The database project involves scoping the requirements, identifying and evaluating possible software solutions, selecting and tailoring the best one, populating the database, and faculty and staff training. Also includes developing procedures and practices for maintenance of database.

IEL Education

This project involves development of an IEL curriculum that is truly world-class, best practice.

IEL Marketing, Outreach, and Communication

This project involves the development of a university-wide IEL marketing and communication program with respect to IEL. It includes: reviewing all marketing collateral and activities, developing consistent Swinburne IEL messages and brand, assisting faculties and schools in outreach initiatives; developing a web presence; identifying, prioritising, and running campaigns, events, and promotions; and publishing newsletters and other informational materials.

Valuing IEL

This project began in response to a recognised need to understand the real costs and benefits of IEL activities. The idea of valuing IEL is a positive approach that will not only enable informed decision making but, over time, reduce duplications and enhance IEL offerings.

IEL Research Capability

This project seeks to further develop research capacity in IEL, and enable Swinburne to demonstrate international leadership in IEL scholarship. Project particulars include developing a research agenda, sponsoring conferences and publications, and building a national and international IEL profile.
