Ambassador Pete Peterson Scholarships

The Ambassador Pete Peterson Scholarship recognises the ground-breaking work of Ambassador Pete Peterson during his time as US Ambassador to Vietnam.

In honour of the work done by Ambassador Pete Peterson, the Peterson family wish to award a scholarship to students studying in all Swinburne Vietnam Alliance Programs locations (Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang), who are seeking to enhance their studies by travelling to Swinburne’s Hawthorn, Australia, campus to complete their degrees and expand their experiences as global citizens.

Two (2) scholarships valued at USD$6,500 will be offered in 2024 and two (2) scholarships will be offered in 2025.


Courses eligible

Any Swinburne Vietnam Alliance Programs' undergraduate degree.


Eligibility / selection criteria

To be eligible for the Ambassador Pete Peterson Scholarship applicants must:

1. Meet the following criteria:

  •  Be enrolled in an undergraduate course under the Swinburne Vietnam Alliance Programs

2. Meet the following enrolment criteria:

  • Enrolled full-time in an eligible course (see courses eligible in section above)
  • Accepted to study at the Hawthorn campus
  • Completed a minimum of 62.5 credit points with an overall minimum 2.0 GPA 

3. Provide a copy of your Academic Transcript. (an Unofficial transcript is acceptable)

4. Provide a short, written statement (maximum 500 words) or a short video (no more than 2 minutes) that outlines your academic, professional, and personal achievements to date: For example:

  • Mentoring, volunteering, event participation, and engagement with your classes.
  • Contributions you have made to your campus, your involvement in extra and co-curricular activities, and how you have displayed the values of Swinburne Vietnam Alliance Programs.
  • Examples of how you have overcome challenges and demonstrated resilience, responsibility, accountability, and making a difference.
     
  • If you are submitting a video, this should be uploaded to cloud based storage and a link provided in an MS Word or PDF document. Please ensure the video can be downloaded by anyone and provide any passwords if necessary.

Preference will be given to applicants who have relocated from rural and regional areas to progress their studies, and/or students in their final year of study.


Value

Each scholarship is valued at USD$6,500 for one year only and paid bi-annually.

Two (2) scholarships are available to be awarded in this round.
