Natural Disaster Emergency Fund
Swinburne has established the Natural Disaster Emergency Fund to support students who have been affected by recent natural disasters within Australia.
At Swinburne, we want to create an inclusive, equitable and supportive environment for our students to thrive. The Natural Disaster Emergency Fund will enable students that have been impacted by natural disasters such as bushfires, floods or droughts to access financial support. We are committed to ensuring that all students with aspirations of higher education and training can succeed, regardless of circumstance.

Available to current/prospective students from all Swinburne courses.
Eligibility / selection criteria
If you have been affected by a bushfire, flood or drought in Australia and as such have financial need, you may be eligible to access funding.
To be eligible, you must:
- Provide a statutory declaration demonstrating the impact of the natural disaster on your studies . The declaration should be limited to 500 words and address the following:
- Type of natural disaster
- Impact on your studies
- Anticipated duration of impact
Include any supporting documents if available. This may include medical certificates, insurance claims, photographs, supporting statements from educators or employers.
In 2020, Swinburne has allocated up to $45,000 in support for students who have been affected by the bushfires affecting Australia. Individual grants are valued at between $1,000 and $5,000.
How to apply
We encourage any Swinburne student or aspiring student affected by natural disaster in Australia to complete an online application form and submit with all supporting documentation to the Scholarships and Orientation team where our friendly staff can provide further assistance and support.
Applications will be considered on an ongoing monthly basis.
