Dr Sven Gallasch
Dr Sven Gallasch is a Lecturer in Law at Swinburne Law School. Prior to his current position, Sven was a lecturer at UEA Law School and a Faculty Member of the Centre for Competition Policy in Norwich, United Kingdom. Originally educated at the University of Trier and the University of Augsburg in Germany, Sven holds a German Diploma in Law. He has also been awarded with a LLM in Competition Law and Policy and a PhD in Law from UEA. His doctoral thesis is entitled ‘The anticompetitive misuse of intellectual property rights in the European pharmaceutical sector’. It was examined by Prof. Ariel Ezrachi and Prof. Bill Kovacic and has been passed with no corrections. His main area of research continues to be the intersection between IP and Competition law, especially in the pharmaceutical sector. He frequently publishes in this area of pharmaceutical antitrust and engages with policy makers and other stakeholders at an international level. In 2015, he was invited to deliver the keynote speech during the 7th United Nations Conference to Review the UN Set on Competition Policy and participated in the Round Table on The Role of Competition in the Pharmaceutical Sector and its Benefits for Consumers at UNCTAD in Geneva. He was also invited to talk about specific pharmaceutical antitrust issues by the Japan Fair Trade Commission in Tokyo and was invited to participate in an international competition law conference in Moscow organised by the Federal Antimonopoly Service.
His current research projects focus on issues of pharmaceutical antitrust in ASEAN countries as well as Japan.
Sven has also been a Visiting Professor at the University of Stetson College of Law in Gulfport, Florida teaching European Antitrust in the JD Program.
