Swinburne has once again ranked in the top 70 universities in the Times Higher Education Asia-Pacific University Rankings.
The Asia-Pacific Rankings were introduced in 2017 to assess world-class universities across research, research training, knowledge transfer and international collaboration.
Among the 287 universities evaluated from 38 nations in East Asia, Southeast Asia and Oceania, Swinburne has been ranked at 69.
Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Development), Professor Bernadine Van Gramberg, says this ranking demonstrates Swinburne’s focus on producing high-quality research and innovation outcomes that create economic and social impact.
“Swinburne is dedicated to excellence and impact in our research through deep engagement with industry, business and society. We are continuing to expand our international collaboration with our research intensive partners and this ranking is a reflection of this commitment,” Professor Van Gramberg says.
Some of Swinburne’s recent research achievements include:
- A joint research centre in advanced manufacturing and materials with Shandong University
- a first-of-its-kind partnership with CSIRO in Silicon Valley to increase Australia-US research, innovation and commercialisation
- the creation of a blockchain technology platform to revolutionise the global art trade industry in partnership with ArtChain Global
- the development of a world-first, self-fitting hearing aid with rechargeable battery and the ability to be set via a smartphone
- a joint research centre in data science with Tel Aviv University.
The 2018 Times Higher Education Asia-Pacific University Rankings are based on the same rigorous criteria as the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, with special modifications to better reflect the characteristics of universities in the region.
